Onshore and offshore together

A combination of onshore and offshore services can help improve turnaround times, author satisfaction and, ultimately, the bottom line. Below, we’ve listed just some of the ways in which specialist onshore editorial and project management work really well with offshore streamlining – and as Sunrise Setting is Lumina Datamatics’ onshore division, you only need to talk to one company to make the most of them.

Manuscript assessment and editing
Lumina Datamatics’ MARS is a tool for assessing the level of pre-editing and copy-editing that a manuscript requires. And those manuscripts that MARS (having imported a publisher’s parameters) assesses as needing to be copy-edited onshore can then be copy-edited by Sunrise Setting. A journal with a broad authorial base, for example, can use MARS on an article-by-article basis to assess whether copy-editing needs to be offshore or onshore (and the level required onshore) with no interruption to the workflow.

Editing and correction collation
Sunrise Setting can copy-edit in Lumina Datamatics’ XEditPro, which allows authors to answer the copy-editor’s queries seamlessly within the same tool. And project managers can use XEditPro later in the workflow to collate corrections from authors, the proofreader and production editors.

Alt text
At the end of June 2025, the European Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882) will ‘make life easier for at least 87 million people’ (EU Commission), partly by requiring ebooks to be accessible for persons with disabilities. Alt text is a crucial part of this, and Lumina Datamatics’ Arty tool is an effective way to generate alt text from either backlist or new titles before that alt text is passed on to Sunrise Setting for checks and amendments in line with the publisher’s specifications.

Keeping authors happy
A mix of onshore and offshore can be as straightforward as pairing Sunrise Setting’s copy-editing and project management with Lumina Datamatics’ design and composition. Authors need only speak with with copy-editors who know their subject and with project managers who can make decisions.
